UB Women's Soccer Signs 9 Year Old Sarah Reid

AMHERST, N.Y. – Just like a college-bound athlete signs a letter of intent with spirited ceremony, so did 9-year-old Sarah Reid.

Reid, a 4th grader from Clarence, has spina bifida and is paralyzed from the waist down.

The UB Women’s Soccer Team invited her to be an honorary member of the team, and it was clear at Reid’s ceremonial signing that her excitement and positive attitude outshine her physical challenges.

Team IMPACT set the team up with Reid. IMPACT is a non-profit that pairs kids with chronic illnesses or life-threatening diseases with role model athletes, and that relationship is an ongoing bond that lasts through graduation.

The UB girls presented Sarah with a number 26 jersey. Afterward, Sarah shared with 2 On Your Side her favorite part of the day and what she's looking forward to most.

"Seeing how much the team really wants me to be on the team and how much they care,” she said.

Reid said she’s looking forward to making new friends, and most of all having fun.

Sarah gets her own locker in the team locker room, which is labeled “REID 26.”

Her name and picture will also be added to the team’s online roster.

Reid will join them at their home game against Canisius on Friday.
