BUFFALO, N.Y. -- University at Buffalo swimmers and divers are not giving up their battle to bring their program back.
Their alumni group met with the administration Thursday afternoon, in their effort to change their mind about cancelling the program. Swimming and diving was one of several sports programs UB cut in April, which include men's soccer and women's rowing -- cuts which impacted around 120 student athletes and saved the school $2 million.
After the meeting, swimming alum Mark Horgan said he thinks the university is listening to their ideas.
"We need to create a solution that allows the swimming program and other programs at the school to be funded in an appropriate way," he said. "And I think part of it's going to be energizing the alumni base, energizing the community -- I think that'll be a big part of it."
The alumni group expects to hear back from the school in the next month, and will plan ahead from there.
