TSA reveals checked baggage screening process

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. -- Ever wondered how the screening process works for checked baggage?

On Tuesday, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) offered an opportunity to check it out behind the scenes at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

The process includes sending baggage down a giant conveyor belt that takes it to be automatically screened, sorted and tracked. The equipment also uses computed tomography (CT) imaging to capture a picture of each piece of luggage. This allows the TSA to make sure there are no explosives or other threats on the aircraft.

Check out a gallery below of the process.
