Town of Tonawanda Police stop burglary in progress

TOWN OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. — Town of Tonawanda Police say they caught two alleged burglars in the process of taking items from a home Wednesday night on Ellwood Avenue in the Town of Tonawanda.

Police say neighbors reported seeing suspicious people outside the home with flashlights late Wednesday night.

Officers responded around 11:51 p.m. and found a door that appeared to be forced open, broken glass, and they could see flashlights glowing in the home's second story.

Two 18-year-old men were then found in a closet, hiding, according to police.

Both teens face multiple charges, including possession of burglar tools, criminal possession of a controlled substance, larceny, and criminal mischief.

Both were arraigned in the Tonawanda Town court Thursday. They were then taken to the Erie County Holding Center on bail set by the judge. They will return for a Felony Hearing Aug.15 at 9 a.m.

The names of the 18-year-old suspects have not been released.
