St. Francis School appeal letter reaches pope

TONAWANDA, NY - Supporters of St Francis' School in the city of Tonawanda received word this week from the pope's secretary that their letter has reached the Holy Father's desk, and that he has read it.

The letter asks permission for their appeal to be heard by a special Vatican congregation.

The school is a local landmark with a 140-year history so they're asking alumni and friends to show their support.

Meanwhile, current students have been advised to enroll in other schools -- at least for the fall semester.
