BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A 14-year-old was struck by an NFTA Transit Police vehicle Monday at about 3 p.m., NFTA spokesperson Doug Hartmayer said.
The accident happened near Amherst Street and Fairfield Avenue in North Buffalo.
The NFTA police vehicle was responding to an incident in another part of the city with its lights and sirens on, Hartmayer said, when the vehicle hit the 14-year-old.
The teenager was getting off of a Metro Bus and crossing the street into traffic. Both the NFTA police vehicle and the bus were heading west down Amherst Street, Hartmayer said. He also stressed the NFTA police vehicle was not responding to an incident related to the Metro Bus.
The 14-year-old remained alert and conscious, Hartmayer said, and was able to speak to his parents after the accident.
The teenager was taken to Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo for treatments and further examinations.
An investigation into the incident continues, Hartmayer said.
