BUFFALO, NY-October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and an event downtown Saturday honored those who champion the cause.
The Buffalo Convention Center was the scene for the 15th annual Susan G. Komen Survivor Luncheon.
Part of the program included the bestowing of the Hope, Faith and Love awards.
The Love Award is given to a volunteer who works tirelessly to advance the Komen mission and inspires others to do the same. This year's was given to WGRZ station and community coordinator, Colleen Nossavage, who has volunteered and taken part in the "WNY Race for the Cure" every year since the very first event in 2001.
The 2016 Hope Award was given to Dr. Saif Soniwala of Soniwala Hematology Oncology Associates in Williamsville.
This year's winner of the Faith Award was Kathy Kowal of Buffalo. The Faith Award goes to a breast cancer survivor who advocates in the community for support, screening or treatment, and works to empower all women.
Some 600 breast cancer surivors and co-survivors attended this year's celebration.
