ESPN is reporting Buffalo Bills General Manager Russ Brandon met with former Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan on Monday and Tuesday to discuss coaching the Bills.
"We had an excellent meeting," Shanahan told ESPN on Wednesday. "I was really impressed with Russ Brandon and everything he had to say. We're going to stay in touch and see what develops."
All indications are Bills owner Ralph Wilson is willing to pay big money and even give away partial ownership of the team in order to land a top coach.
A person close to Shanahan told NFL.com's Vic Carucci that Shanahan could be looking for a $10 million per year salary and partial ownership of the team.
"It's information that came from someone who was very close to Mike Shanahan and was familiar with what it would take to get him back to coaching," said Carucci. "It's the kind of thing that very hot candidates will do when they feel like they've got a desperate partner."
Despite the developments, several people close to Shanahan say it is unlikely Shanahan will come to Buffalo once other coaching positions become available during the off season.
