On a cold and rainy night residents of Silver Creek gathered at a high school track to remember one of their own.
Katelin Doctor, 11, died 10 days ago of an undisclosed illness.
Katelin was a 6th grader at Silver Creek Middle School and while her parents attended the candlelight vigil planned and staged by fellow students, a family friend advised 2 on Your Side they were not up to talking about the death of their daughter.
"We decided we needed to do something to show we cared. This is a tight knit community," said Abigail Roque, a Silver Creek High School Senior.
"This is a chance for the kids to say good-bye in their special way," said Silver Creek Middle School Principal Patricia Krenzer.
As she helped distribute candles for the vigil Brittany Eggleston, a Senior at Silver Creek High, remarked that Katelin was viewed as a point of light herself.
"She was a fun person to be around. She always lit up your day," Eggleston said.
Krenzer added that, "We believe, I suppose, that she lives on in that light."
Roque even felt Katelin's presence in the rain, equating it to tears from heaven.
It's just Katelin, ...she's a little upset right," Roque explained.
Before the event concluded mourners walked one slow lap around the track, lead by Katelin's parents, who were then presented with a framed photo of their daughter signed by dozens who attended the vigil.
