Whenever they meet in big athletic competition, Grover Cleveland principal Dr. Casey Young and City Honors principal Dr. William Kresse like to make a friendly wager...maybe some chicken wings, or a beef on weck.

But since the two men are new fathers, they decided that whoever won the boy's soccer Class B Section VI playoff game would get something a little different: a case of diapers.

After a tough game, it turns out the Grover Cleveland Presidents are headed to the New York State Final Four Saturday morning.

But before they took off, there was a bet to settle.

In a press conference Wednesday, Dr. Kresse surrendered a case of diapers to Dr. Young, making good on the bet.

"My wife didn't have a great look on her face when I walked out of the house this morning with a box of our diapers," Kresse joked.

The event was also a celebration, honoring not only the Grover Cleveland boy's soccer but the City Honors girl's volleyball team. Both principals expressed their pride for their team's success, whether it was on or off the field.

"They are a very dynamic group of young men, who exemplify the model role of what you would want to see from students," Dr. Young said of the boy's soccer team.

Dr. Kresse saluted his volleyball team, saying, "They are spirited, they are precision-oriented, they are headed off to the State Championships this weekend, and we think they are going to come home with a second title for the Buffalo Public Schools."

The girls won the Far West Regional Championship on November 14th and are headed to the State Championships in Glens Falls this weekend.
