The firing of Bills head coach Dick Jauron did not come as a shock to most fans, what surprised them was the timing.
Some thought it should have been done long ago, and since it didn't, many expected it once the season was over. Dave Glass said, "I don't like to see anyone get fired, it was time to make a change." Dan O'leary sighed, "It had to be done." Bob Sommer said, "I think it was long overdue." At Amherst Pizza and Ale House, word spread quickly, no one upset or sorry to see Jauron go, although, some seemed sympathetic on a personal level. Others say it's given them hope for a franchise, they'd given up on. "I'm extremely happy," Randy Jasulevich told us. The Bills season ticket holder had seats in the lower bowl for twenty-five years. The team sent him a plaque with his tickets as a thanks you and this year he sent them back with a note. "Not with this coach," Jasulevich wrote. Now, the move has changed things. He will renew his faith and his season tickets. At WGR radio, the phone lines were jammed with fans calling in to give their opinions on the firing.
Radio host Mike Schopp said this one was for the fans.
"To fire Jauron was a way to appease fans, they bite the bullet on his contract and get busy looking toward the future," Schopp said.
