If you bought tickets to see Chaim Topol's final performance of "Fiddler on the Roof" at Shea's Performing Arts Center next week, you might be disappointed to hear the famed singer will not take the stage.
Topol, who was expected to play the role of Tevye, pulled out of the musical tour due to a medical reason. Shea's made the announcement on Thursday.
The part of Tevye will now be played by John Preece. This will be his 8th National Tour of the musical. Preece has performed in "Fiddler" 3,000 times.
"These situations occur in live theater," said Anthony Conte, president of Shea's. "Our performances of 'Fiddler on the Roof' will go on as scheduled and we are confident that John Preece will be wonderful in the role as Tevye."
Performances are scheduled for November 17-22.
