A standoff that lasted for more than seven hours in Blasdell ended peacefully overnight.
According to police, Dale Kauzinsky, of Blasdell, was taken into custody shortly before one o'clock this morning.
It started when police were called to a house on Lake Avenue where Kauzinsky had locked himself inside with a shotgun. He refused to come out, and at one time started taunting SWAT team members. Police say he was intoxicated during the standoff.
A hostage negotiator and the Town of Hamburg Emergency Response Team helped end the standoff peacefully.
"The negotiator was stationed near the residence out front, and he kept in contact with him through the bull horn. He would verbally respond by yelling out the window to say he understood what was being done," said Blasdell Police Lieutenant Mike Melisz.
Police would not comment on whether or not Kauzinsky has a criminal record.
Police say no charges will be filed until Kauzinsky receives a psychiatric evaluation.
