On Saturday morning, a huge parade of volunteers led by ABC Television's Ty Pennington and the crew of Extreme Makeover - Home Edition, will descend upon one unsuspecting neighborhood.
A Western New York family has been selected as the recipient of a complete home overhaul. The location and identity of the family has been one of Buffalo's best kept secrets. However, that has not stopped the region from rolling out the red carpet and answering the call for volunteers.
WNY AmeriCorps is coordinating the volunteer effort, while David Homes is the lead contractor. Countless other craftsmen and distributors are also ponying up labor and supplies to make this all happen.
The volunteer response is what has drawn the most notice. The numbers are around 4,500 and still growing. This looks to be the largest volunteer response the show has ever had.
Those involved are excited about the prospects of giving a deserving family a new start, but also about giving the nation a true taste of what Western New York is made of.
