FIRST QUARTER
COIN TOSS: Houston wins toss and elects to receive.
1:06 - Texans come out driving down the field... the offense producing as advertised until a 2nd and 4 at the Buffalo 32 when Matt Schaub looks for Owen Daniels and overthrows him. Jairus Byrd comes up with another interception... that's the sixth of the season for the rookie. He continues to show tremendous skills in terms of tracking the football. Byrd ties a team record with an interception in a fourth consecutive game... he also becomes the first NFL rookie to have a pick in four straight games since Orlando Thomas in 1995.
1:12 - Bills first drive stalls - Fitzpatrick incomplete to Reed on third down... Buffalo forced to punt.
1:14 - The Bills defense forces a three and out. Schaub pressured by Aaron Schobel on third and six and throws incomplete. Houston tight end Owen Daniels hurt on the play... is helped to sideline - that could prove to be a critical injury for the Houston offense... will update when info becomes available.
1:20 - Bills drivestart is at the 26 yard line. Fitzpatrick completes to Owens for a gain of three on first down. Right Tackle Jamon Meredith is hurt on the play... helped off the field appearing to injure right leg. The Bills are woefully thin due to injury on the O-line - Kirk Chambers is into the game at right tackle for Buffalo. Bills face third and seven and Fitzpatrick throws short of the mark to Steve Johnson - awful.. unacceptable as the Bills are stopped short of the first down.
1:23 - Jacoby Jones with a great return of the punt to the Buffalo 25 after a 70-yard return but a flag is down. Texans are flagged for holding on return. Texans will start from their own 47-yard line.
1:29 - The Bills defense produces its second turnover of the day. Schaub completes to Steve Slaton - Paul Posluszny forces a fumble and DT Marcus Stroud recovers for Buffalo. Bills start at their own 42-yard line but the drive goes nowhere. Fred Jackson picks up seven yards on two carries but Fitzpatrick is sacked on third down. The Buffalo offensive line is caving in a big way to the Houston pass rush. That doesn't bode well.
1:31 - INJURY UPDATES - Houston TE Owen Daniels has a sprained knee and his return is questionable. Bills RT Jamon Meredith has sprained knee and return is questionable.
1:35 - Jairus Byrd strikes again.... another pick... second of the game and seventh of the season. Schaub's pass is off the hands of receiver Andre Johnson and Byrd is there to pick it off.
1:36 - SCORING UPDATE - BILLS TOUCHDOWN - TERRELL OWENS ON 29-YARD TOUCHDOWN RUN - 7-0 BUFFALO
The Bills offense strikes immediately on an end around flip to Terrell Owens. T.O. gets good blocking and sprints 29-yards down the left sideline for the touchdown. With the score Owens takes over 4th place on the all-time touchdown list. Also, with the interception, Jairus Byrd becomes just the second NFL player to have three straight multiple interception games - the other was San Francisco's Dave Baker back in 1960.
SECOND QUARTER
1:46 - SCORING UPDATE: HOUSTON FG - KRIS BROWN 42-YARD FIELD GOAL - 7-3 BUFFALO.
Bills defense forces the Texans to settle for a field goal. Aaron Schobel's pressure forces a Schaub incompletion on third down. Schobel sacked Schaub earlier in the drive on first down and is having a very productive game so far.
1:54 - Bills forced to punt after driving to the Texans 36. Fitzpatrick sacked again on 3rd and 5. The Texans pass rush is having its way with the Buffalo offensive line in any obvious passing situation. Earlier in the drive the Bills used the wildcat formation snapping the ball to Fred Jackson who ran for gains of 4, and 1-yard on two plays.
2:09 - SCORING UPDATE - HOUSTON FG - KRIS BROWN 22-YARD FIELD GOAL - BILLS LEAD 7-6 WITH 2:18 LEFT IN THE HALF.
-Texans drive 86-yards in 14-plays having success on the run and in the short passing game. Bills DE Aaron Schobel left the field limping late in the drive and is talking with trainer Bud Carpenter on the sidelines - the Bills report he's got a groin injury and his return is questionable.
2:21 - SCORING UPDATE - BILLS FIELD GOAL RIAN LINDELL 21-YARD FG - BUFFALO LEADS 10-6
The Bills are able to get points after a 71-yard kickoff return from Fred Jackson. Buffalo had the ball 3rd and goal at the three and Ryan Fitzpatrick throws incomplete to Terrell Owens on a fade route in the corner of the end zone... good coverage from Jacques Reeves.
2:23 - Schobel returns for Buffalo before the end of the half.
BILLS LEAD 10-6 AT THE HALF.
THIRD QUARTER
2:40 - Bills are forced to punt on their first possession of the second half. Fitzpatrick went deep for Owens on second down but Owens was well covered and the ball was to far inside for him to make the play.
2:50 - SCORING UPDATE - HOUSTON FG - KRIS BROWN FROM 26-YARDS AWAY - BILLS LEAD THE GAME 10-9 WITH 7:05 LEFT IN THE THIRD QUARTER
Houston drives 72-yards in 12-plays. The key offensive play on the drive was Schaub's 36-yard strike to receiver Jacoby Jones. The key defensive play was Spencer Johnson's sack of Schaub on 3rd and goal at the 4-yard line.
INJURY UPDATES: The following players are out of the game:
HOUSTON TE - Owen Daniels - Knee
BUFFALO DE - Aaron Schobel - Groin
BUFFALO LB - Keith Ellison - Quad
BUFFALO RT - Jamon Meredith - Knee
2:58 - Bills forced to punt after incompletion to Marshawn Lynch on 3rd and 3 at the 17. The Bills had it set up beautifully... Fitzpatrick put the balll where it needed to be and Lynch just dropped it. Kilgore made the point and I agree with him... If Fred Jackson's in there on that play the Bills pick up the first down. Instead the Bills punt with a one point lead and Houston will start it's drive at their own 28.
3:06 - Houston driving at the Buffalo 21 as the third quarter comes to an end. This game is like watching a slow bleed... the Bills defense has done everything possible to keep them in it. They've produced three turnovers... the've held the Texans to just 9-point through three quarters of play. The Buffalo offense simply can't sustain anything - unless that changes, or unless the Bills can force more turnovers, the Texans will take over the game. The stats tell the story... the Bills are being outgained 354-140... and the Texans lead the time of possession 29:20 to 16:23.
FOURTH QUARTER
3:09 - HOUSTON TOUCHDOWN - 11-YARD TD RUN BY RYAN MOATS
TEXANS LEAD THE GAME 17-10 AFTER CONVERTING THE 2-POINT CONVERSION ON A MATT SCHAUB PASS TO ANDRE JOHNSON.
3:15 - Bills go three and out and try a fake punt... Brian Moorman runs right and tries a reverse to Justin Jenkins... but the Texans are right there to stop them and take over on downs.
3:20 - SCORING UPDATE - HOUSTON TOUCHDOWN - RYAN MOATS 1-YARD TOUCHDOWN RUN. TEXANS LEAD 24-10
The Texans take advantage of the field position after the failed fake punt. Schaub hit Andre Johnson for a 15-yard gain and then Moats gained 17 on the ground to set up the short yardage situation. The Texans have scored 18 unanswered points.
3:27 - The Bills turn the football over. Ryan Fitzpatrick throws deep right sideline and is picked off. It looked as if Owens was the intended receiver... but Owens wound up breaking his deep route short... On the surface it looks like miscommunication that ultra costly. The Texans are flagged for a late hit on the return and will start their drive from their own 34 with 8 :59 left in the game and leading 24-10.
3:35 - Bills safety Jairus Byrd leaves the field for the lockeroom with 3:45 left in the game... waiting for an update.
3:37 - SCORING UPDATE - RYAN MOATS ON SHORT RUNNING TOUCHDOWN.... TEXANS LEAD 31-10 WITH 3:34 LEFT IN THE GAME.
The Texans chip away on a 10-play 66-yard drive. The Texans have outscored Buffalo 25-0 in the second half.
Thanks for joining us at wgrz.com... departing for lockeroom and postgame interviews with 3:10 left in the game and the Texans leading 31-10.
