A former employee of the Buffalo Bills is charged with stealing thousands of dollars from the organization over several years.
Bonnie Krauss, 49, is a former administrative assistant with the Buffalo Bills. She worked there for ten years before moving to Corona, California. According to a 2007 Bills media guide Krauss was the Assistant to the Vice President of Marketing and Broadcasting.
Buffalo Bills attorney Mike Schiavione says Krauss allegedly stole a little more than $70,000 over several years. He says she did it by falsifying expense reports keeping some of the cash for herself.
Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita confirmed the charges but would not comment on camera and said "can't get in to the schemes she allegedly used."
Sources within the New York State Supreme Court say Krauss turned herself and pleaded "not guilty" at her arraignment Monday. She's charged with felony grand larceny in the third degree.
Krauss' attorney, Joel Daniels would not comment on the case.
Filings in the state supreme court show Krauss was released from custody after posting $20,000 bail. The next step in the process, a judge will be assigned to the case and a pre-trial conference will be scheduled.
The attorney for the Bills says the organization is disappointed because this was a long term employee they trusted.
The maximum penalty for this crime is fifteen years in jail. Sources close to the investigation say Krauss doesn't have a criminal record and if she pays all the money back won't likely see jail time.
