Three football players from Western New York joined NFL teams Sunday. Two players were taken in the seventh and final round of the 2009 NFL Draft, and another one was signed as a free agent.

Derek Kinder played his high school football at Albion. The speedy wide receiver played his college ball at Pittsburgh. He was drafted by the Chicago Bears. Kinder missed all of the 07 season with an injury and that certainly had something to do with why he was drafted so late.

Gronkowski, who played his high school football at Williamsville North played college ball at Maryland. He was drafted as a tight end by the Detroit Lions. He told Adam Benigni from WGRZ-TV and wgrz.com how excited he is to have a chance to play in the NFL.

Former Amherst wide receiver Mark Rubin signed a free agent contract with the St. Louis Rams. Rubin played safety at Penn State. Rubin made the play that iced the Ohio State game for the Nittany Lions last season. He was featured during last summer's Olympics on NBC and Channel 2. Rubin has a unique claim to fame. As a young swimmer he beat 8 time Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps.
