The case against 30-year-old Cara Dickey will be heard by an Erie County Grand Jury.
Dickey appeared before a Buffalo City Court judge Monday morning. She faces charges of unlawful imprisonment, promoting a suicide attempt, unlawfully dealing with a child and endangering the welfare of a child. Two are felonies.
Arrest papers reveal Dickey and a 14-year-old boy made a suicide pact. She picked him up on Marilla Street, right across from the school on June 16th. She had Tylenol, Nyquil, and Bacardi and UV Vanilla. Documents say the two had a pact to take the pills and drink alcohol and commit suicide. They spent the next 24 hours together.
The teacher-student relationship came out last month, when administrators at the South Buffalo Charter School found out she was sending the kid inappropriate text messages.
On June 17th, Dr. Cederick Ellis, the school's Director, told us, "They represent inappropriate expressions of affection between an adult and student."
He also said he warned Dickey on several occasions she was getting to close to this student. The 14-year-old boy is from West Seneca and was being mentored by Dickey.
Dickey was escorted from the school and suspended after the student's cell phone was confiscated and inappropriate text messages from her found on it.
And at that point on June 16th, Dickey left school and met up with the 14-year-old student.
The pair were missing and weren't heard from again for 24 hours.
Later, they were picked up at two different locations; Dickey in her car in Springville, The boy at the mall in Hamburg.
Dickey is a married mother of three and lives with her family in Clarence.
Dickey is no longer teacher at South Buffalo Charter School.
