BUFFALO, N.Y.-Section 5 Waterloo advances to the Girls New York State Championships after they beat Olean in the Class B Far West Regional on Friday, 41-37.

Waterloo put it's 9 game win streak on the line on Friday and were able to prevail thanks to their great defense. The Huskies could not figure out the Indians 1-3-1 defense, as Waterloo shut down Olean's post players.

The Huskies were led by senior center and captain # 40 Sara Ziegler who had a team-high 11 points. Sophomore Point Guard # 10 Olivia Anzivine added 10 points for the Huskies as Olean finished the season with a 19-4 overall record.

Olean has had great experience in the Far West Regional having been there 5 out of the last 6 years. The Huskies were set on avenging last years Far West loss to Aquinas on Friday, but they weren't able to come away with the win.

In this close defensive battle Waterloo came away with the victory, Junior Captain # 23 Lindsay Johnson led the way with a game high 15 points for the Indians. Junior Captain # 4 Lauren Deming added 12 points as Waterloo improves to 22-1 overall, their only loss came on January 18th to Newark.

Despite their one loss Waterloo has been spent the entire season ranked No.1 in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle in the Section 5 small school poll. This year has been one to remember for the Indians, they've won their first Sectional title since 2007.

Waterloo will move on to represent the Far West and Class B in the Girls New York State Basketball Championships on March 15th - March 17th.
