BUFFALO, N.Y. - A popular waterfront light show could soon become a permanent attraction for the city of Buffalo.

The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation has approved a master plan to install a permanent lighting display at the grain elevators near Gallagher Beach.

The display was tested last October and featured historical video, underwater life and symbols of local culture.
Dottie Gallagher-Cohen, C.E.O. of Visit Buffalo-Niagara, says she thinks the light show could become a significant tourist draw for Western New York.

"In this case, you're taking something and creating a very distinct experience," Gallagher-Cohen said. "There aren't a lot of places you can go to see lit grain elevators."

The plan is being modeled after a similar display in Quebec City called the Image Mill.  That attraction draws as many as 300,000 visitors each summer.
