BUFFALO, N.Y.-Canisius senior wide receiver Denzel Benton will play college football for the University of Rhode Island.
Benton signed his letter of intent at a ceremony Wednesday morning at Canisius High School. Benton, a three year starter had 85 catches for 1,635 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also played defensive back.
This season Benton was First Team All-Catholic, Second Team All Western New York and Honorable Mention All-New York State.
Benton told Two On Your Side's Stu Boyar "Its always been my dream to play D-1 football ever since I was five years old I've always wanted to play D-1 and try to go pro. I mean that's my goal so going to D-1 to Rhode Island I think I have my best chance of being able to play."
Benton joins former Canisius wide receiver Theo Russell with the Rams.
