ORCHARD PARK, NY (WGRZ) -- The toboggan runs at Chestnut Ridge Park are not open.
Erie County's Commissioner of Parks tells 2 On Your Side it is due to a lack of snow. "I'm glad you're doing this story because the public's been calling our office - can we go tobogganing today and they've been doing that for a few weeks now. We need more packing snow. We need 6 to 8 inches of packing snow to make the rails safe," said Jim Hornung.
Last year, Erie County spent a couple hundred thousand dollars to improve the toboggan runs at Chestnut Ridge.
Hornung says once there is more hard-packed snow, then the toboggan runs will open on Fridays from 4-8 pm, Saturdays and Sundays from 10-4 pm.
