Arbitrator: cosmetic surgery rider not eliminated

Arbitrator Reinstates BTF Cosmetic Coverage

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Although over the summer the Buffalo School Board voted against a contentious cosmetic surgery rider, an arbitrator says the rider cannot yet be eliminated.

The cosmetic surgery rider allows teachers to get cosmetic surgery and massages at taxpayers' expense.

The arbitrator said the board cannot act unilaterally and take away these benefits.

Phil Rumore, the Buffalo Teachers Union President, said he's willing to give up the rider as a part of something the union has not done in years --agree to a new contract.
