Roswell Park on money raised by 11 Day Power Play

Roswell Park Talkback

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A World Record was set in Buffalo Monday, but those who set it were working toward more than getting their names in a record book.

They raised money for Roswell Park Cancer Institute -- $1.2 million by the end of the longest hockey game ever recorded.

2 On Your Side spoke with the President and CEO of Roswell Park, Dr. Candace Johnson, Monday about what this money will go toward.

She called it an "amazing amount of money" raised by 40 men. She also said it will go toward cutting edge therapy, vaccine approaches, work on the Cuban Lung Cancer Vaccine CIMAvax and some brain tumor research.

"It's just remarkable what they did," Johnson said.

She added in addition to the recent Ride for Roswell, the Buffalo community has given Roswell Park $6 million already this summer to support their cancer research and treatment initiatives.

"It really blows me away to think of the community and their support," Dr. Johnson said.
