Restaurant owner shot in armed robbery

Restaurant Owner Shot During Robbery

CLARENCE, NY - State police continue to investigate the shooting of a restaurant owner, who was wounded while being robbed at gunpoint late Sunday night

NY State Police identify the victim as Alex Pozantidis, 44, the owner of Zoe Restaurant on Transit Rd. in the Town of Clarence.

Police say Pozantidis suffered non-life threatening injuries while being shot twice in the arms, with one bullet reaching his abdomen.

It was just after closing when police say Pozantidis was leaving with the day's receipts, when he was confronted behind his business by a gunman who took the money and shot him.

A source tells us the staff members who were still inside the restaurant did not hear the shots, and were unaware of what happened until Pozantidis' wife –who was waiting for him outside - came in  to tell them to call 911.

The restaurant was open and doing a brisk business on Monday, despite the unfortunate end to what had been a great week or so of business for Pozanaditis, who just opened his new Zoe Restaurant next door to the one it replaced.

State Police say they are continuing to conduct interviews regarding the shooting for which no arrests have been made.
