Accident causes power outages in OP

DWI Crash Blamed For Orchard Park Power Loss

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y.-- Orchard Park Police say an intoxicated driver caused an accident overnight that knocked out power to many people.

It happened on Big Tree Road between Center and Cobham.

That stretch of road was closed for most of the morning so crews can work to repair a pole that was damaged and restore power to the area.

Police believe the pole was struck just before 3 a-m.

Authorities arrested 21-year-old Anthony Peters about half a mile from the scene.   They say he was driving a Dodge Ram with major damage.

He's charged with Driving While Intoxicated, possession of an open container of alcohol in a moving vehicle, and other traffic violations.

Two schools were impacted by the morning power outage.  Orchard Park Middle School dismissed their students at 10:30am and South Davis Elementary School was closed to students, but staff still had to report.
