Parts of WNY still cleaning up after flooding

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y.---Parts of Western New York are still cleaning up after last week's flooding.

A Cheektowaga homeowner reached out to us over the weekend, after her basement flooded with raw sewage.

Town officials weren't available to talk to us over the weekend, but crews went out to see the homes on McParlin Avenue Monday.  After inspecting the lines, the Town says the issue was caused by plumbing work the homeowner recently had done without a permit.

"It's complicated, and it could be costly, so sometimes owners are permitted to do the work on their own if they file for permits, but we weren't there with the guidance because no permit was applied for," said Cheektowaga Code Enforcement Officer Rick Coburn.

The town says it recommended a list of plumbers to the homeowner, and that she was satisfied with the response.
