Orleans County Body Identified After 30 Years

SHELBY, NY- New York State Police announced Monday that they have successfully identified a female body more than 30 years after it was first discovered in 1983 in the town of Shelby.

The body was identified as Shari Lynne Ball, who was first reported missing by her family in Florida in June of 1983.

According to state police, Ball told her family that she was traveling to New York State to begin a modeling career. Ball made contact with a friend a day or two after she left Florida from a truck stop in Virginia, but state police say that was the last time anyone heard from her.

Ball's body was discovered in October of 1983 by a hunter several feet off the shoulder of Route 63, according to state police. The body was in a decomposed state and believed to have been there for several months.

Police believe foul play may have played a role in Ball's death.
