NT woman freed after conviction overturned

Marchant Conviction Tossed, D-A Weighs Appeal

BUFFALO, NY--- A woman from North Tonawanda, convicted of stabbing to death her boyfriend, is now a free woman.

Jennifer Marchant spent three years in prison after being found guilty of manslaughter.

She was released from custody Wednesday after a quick appearance at the Niagara County courthouse.

Since 2013 -- Marchant had been in a maximum-security prison.   She claimed that her boyfriend was beating her and she feared for her life.

Last week the state's highest court overturned that conviction, saying prosecutors failed to prove it was not a case of self defense.

It's unclear if local prosecutors will appeal that decision.
