North Park Theater Back Open to the Public

BUFFALO, NY - The soul of North Buffalo shines bright again. The marquee is lit, tickets are being handed out one by one, and that famous popcorn is being popped.

The North Park Theater on Hertel Avenue has been undergoing some massive renovations. On Friday, the grande dame of Buffalo movie palaces reopened to the public.

"Our goal really was to come to the theatre and have people go out on the streets, go to the bars, go the restaurants and in a sense revitalize Hertel Avenue even more than it is," Co-owner Tom Eoannou said.

More than $500,000 of work has been put into this theatre that seats more than 600 people. The dome on the ceiling has been restored and a painting that was once hidden above the movie screen has been revealed.

"So this is restored almost exactly how it looked November 21, 1920 when it opened," Eoannou said.

The original concession stand built when the theatre first opened was discovered during remodeling and is now refinished.

The owners tells 2 on your side that when it was open previously there was one show a day and two on the weekends.
Now there will be two different matinees on Saturdays and Sundays for the kids and three movies will run a night.
