New luxury hotel opens in Buffalo

Curtiss Hotel Opens In Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Curtiss Hotel in downtown Buffalo opened its doors for the first time Friday afternoon.

It's the end of a long process to bring the formerly abandoned building back to life as a luxury hotel.

There are 68 rooms, and each is spectacular. Just about everything inside is controlled electronically, including the lights and curtains.

On the first floor, each guest room is different.

"The hotel is open, and reservations are coming in, tonight [for] Chez Ami, home of the revolving bar," said Mark Croce, of the Curtiss Hotel.

He also said: "This is on the National Register of Historic Places as a local landmark -- we preserved the historic corridor."

While the hotel building itself is historic, inside are many modern features, including an indoor, year-round hot tub.

"There's a lot of other middle-market hotels in the marketplace, just like a Ritz Carlton or Waldorf Astoria, you're going to get that kind of service here," Croce said.

The hotel is open at 210 Franklin Street along with two restaurants.
