K-9s track down missing elderly people

BUFFALO, NY-- Two canines assisted in locating two missing elderly people in Erie County on Tuesday.

The Erie County Sheriff's office says they received a phone call Tuesday afternoon after an 80-year-old Grand Island resident walked away from her Love Road home and could not be located by her caregiver. Deputies arrived on scene with K9 Apollo.   Apollo was able to track down the missing resident in the woods.  The woman was found in good health and reunited with her family.

Just after 10pm, the sheriff's office received a call from a home care aide in Clarence after they noticed the 79-year-old resident missing from his Hedgewood Drive home.   Deputies arrived on scene, along with K9 Haso and conducted a search.  The resident was found about 15 minutes later in a wooded area near the man's home.  He was found in good health and taken home.

Apollo and Haso trained together at the police academy and graduated in 2015.
