Injured beaver rescued near Lackawanna fire

LACKAWANNA, NY-- Two NYS Troopers from Clarence helped rescue an injured beaver near the Lackawanna fire site this weekend.

Officials say the troopers were working a traffic detail on Route 5 near Smoke Creek when they discovered a 50 lbs. beaver in distress.   Troopers believe the beaver may have been disoriented possibly due to living in proximity to the fire.

The troopers captured the beaver and transported it to the SPCA  facility in Tonawanda.  The animal has since been transferred to an animal sanctuary in Angelica.  The animal will most likely be released back into the wild by spring.
