Getting Answers On Falls Finances

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. -- A state review of the City of Niagara Falls shows it is in financial trouble. For a third day, 2 On Your Side is investigating the possibility of the Falls sharing services with the county to save money.

Mayor Paul Dyster says he's looking at some departments in City Hall to combine.

However, a larger cost savings could come by sharing services with the county, including police dispatch. But current union rules and contracts could be a problem.

When asked about his response to Niagara Falls taxpayers, Mayor Dyster said: "This is a good thing. I don't want to try and put timelines on things we have to fully analyze this, but we're anxious to move forward with those reccomendations..to get started."

The mayor also talked about implementing a 3-1-1 line as a cost savings measure, like the hotline Buffalo uses.
