Funeral help needed for man killed in Hamburg accident

DONATIONS NEEDED FOR VICTIM'S FUNERAL

HAMBURG, N.Y. -- Police have released the name of a man who died when he was hit by a runaway car in Hamburg Town Park Tuesday.

The accident that killed Frank C. Woods, 73, of Orchard Park happened at about 5:15 p.m. at the park's Lakeshore Road while Woods and his friend were trying to transfer jet skis from one trailer to another at the park's boat launch.

As they were working on hooking one of the trailers to a 2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer, Woods lost control of the trailer and it rolled down the launch toward the water.

Woods shouted to his friend in the SUV that he'd lost control of the trailer. Woods was standing behind the SUV at the time. His friend then got out of the Trailblazer to help. When he did, the Trailblazer ran over Woods.

Woods was taken to Mercy Hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead.

Police say no charges have been filed and they are continuing to investigate.

Wood's son Steven Woods created a Go Fund Me page to help pay for his father's funeral expenses.
