BUFFALO, NY-- The Korean War veteran, whose remains were brought back to WNY earlier this week, was laid to rest Friday morning.
A funeral service was held in the Forest Lawn Cemetery Chapel for Corporal Roy Fink, who went missing in action in 1950. His remains were recovered from the Choisin Reservoir fifteen years ago.
Fink's oldest living relative, Paul DeFrain, had his DNA tested and it was used to positively identify the remains as those of his long lost uncle. He learned of the positive match nine weeks ago.
An open-casket memorial was held to honor the veteran Thursday. Inside was an empty dress uniform with the medals that Fink never got to wear, including the Purple Heart.
