Community leaders held an event tonight to urge the city to allow their input on the redevelopment of around 200 city-owned vacant lots. Residents we spoke with say they're worried about outside developers ruining the history of the neighborhood.
"We want the residents who have been here, who've fought the wars back for 30 and 40 years, to have the right to say what will happen with these lots. We'd like control. We'd like 100 percent control of the vacant lots that the city now has," said Zaid Islam.
He adds several cities around the country have given control of vacant lots to nearby residents for redevelopment and he hopes Buffalo will follow suit.
