Frightworld Hosts Events For Ailing Children

TONAWANDA, N.Y. -- The haunted attraction Frightworld gave children with serious ailments a unqiue way to enjoy the Halloween spirit Saturday in Tonawanda.

For the second year, Frightworld threw a party for Stone's Buddies, a program at Women and Children's Hospital. The program was named in the memory of a 4-year-old patient, and helps kids and families cope with chronic and life-threatening illnesses.

Children in Stone's Buddies got a behind-the-scenes look at the spooky Frightworld attractions, including scenery, characters and props.

Everything on the tour was set up so children with serious health conditions could truly enjoy it.

"A lot of the kids are in wheelchairs or have special needs and it's hard for them to get anywhere," said Joanne Koessler-Lana, Stone's Buddies Director. "And a lot of them can't commit to going to places because at the last minute the child might get sick and then they can't come as a family so they'd lose their money up front. So something like this has everything donated. The other great thing is all of our families are really getting to know each other."
