Free Rabies shots for dogs, cats, ferrets

Rabies clinic

ERIE COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Erie County Department of Health Division of Environmental Health is offering three  clinics where free rabies shots will be provided for dogs, cats and ferrets.

All three are scheduled for 4 - 7 p.m.

The first is Wednesday, Sept. 14 at the Erie Community College North Campus Ctr. Maintenance Garage, 6205 Main Street in Williamsville.

The second will be offered Tuesday, Sept. 20 at the Springville Fire Department, 405 W. Main Street, Springville.

The third is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 28 at the West Seneca Highway Garage, 39 South Avenue off Union Road, near Route 400 in West Seneca.

Organizers ask that each pet is brought on a leash or in a carrier and that each pet's vaccination record is also provided.

The clinics are being offered after a Rabies Alert was issued in Erie County in June. In July, officials said a rabid cat attacked a woman who was walking her dog in North Tonawanda and was humanely euthanized.

The Niagara Frontier Veterinary Society, SPCA of Erie County, and Medaille Veterinary Technology are providing support for the clinics.
