"Food Trucks 'n Fire Trucks" event in East Aurora

EAST AURORA, N.Y. -- Food trucks, fire trucks and a famous Candy Cannon were among many attractions that kept adults and children alike entertained in East Aurora Sunday.

The event, Food Trucks N' Fire Trucks, was held for its third year at the East Aurora Firemen's Field, located at 400 Pine Street, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

"It is an afternoon where families can come out and have a bite to eat, enjoy live music and support their local fire department," said event chairman Larry Roland.

This year it offered a few new activities for attendees, including a craft show, basket raffle and a traveling 9/11 exhibit honoring the men and women who died and risked their lives responding to the terrorist attacks 15 years ago, according to event organizers.

The event's focal point, though, was regional food. Attendees could choose from various dishes served from 10 food trucks form the Buffalo and Rochester areas. Foods for sale included gumbo, wood fired pizza, tacos and gourmet popcorn.  In addition, the East Aurora Fire Department offered their traditional limburger and onions as well as their clams and chowder.

Those of drinking age were able to try a selection of craft beers from several local  as well.

Those of all ages could explore a selection of fire trucks on display and could watch the firing of East Aurora's famous Candy Cannon, originally used during the annual Toy Fest, Roland said. The cannon fills the sky with candy wrapped in colorful streamers.

The bands Krossfire and Wasted Whiskey provided live entertainment to keep attendees grooving while they enjoyed the event's many other attractions.
