Family wants answers in fatal crash

Boy Killed In Crash, Family Seeks Answers

BUFFALO, NY - A local family demands answers from Buffalo Police, after their little boy was struck by a car and killed on the East Side. That incident happened around 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the intersection of Fillmore and Sycamore.

Family members say the little boy was walking with his mother across Sycamore, when a car struck the child, who later died at the hospital. The family has identified the victim as four-year-old Tasfiq Tofa of Buffalo.

"I'm speechless right now, I can't speak anything, I lost my son," said Tufaial Ahmed, the victim's father.

Family members of the child say he was walking with his mom, and that they were coming from a cousin's house, heading home.  Theysay when the two walked across Sycamore, they got halfway across the street, before the light turned green and a car slammed into the boy.

"They already crossed two-thirds of the road, so he should have known there was somebody right in front of him," said Abdul Khan, a family friend.

Tofa family members also say the boy was dragged about 10 feet under the car.

He was rushed to Women and Children's Hospital, where he died. The driver of that car, a 22-year-old man from Buffalo, did stop at the scene. Buffalo police say the driver is cooperating in the investigation and at this time, has not been charged.

Investigators continue to gather statements from any potential witnesses.

2 On Your Side has learned that the driver's vehicle was impounded for testing.

There does seem to be some conflict in one part of the incident, police say at this point, it appears Tofa ran out into the street, but his family says his mom was with him as he crossed the street.

Still, the family is devastated and they want action from city leaders to improve safety here. The family is calling for additional street lights in the area to slow traffic, and say drivers speed there frequently.

Tofa attended P.S. 45 International School in Buffalo. A memorial for him was held on Wednesday.
