Buffalo man arrested after wild chase is suspect in shooting

BUFFALO, NY - Buffalo Police officers say they have a man in custody who may have been involved in a shooting in the area of East Ferry Street and Fillmore Avenue early Sunday morning.

Officers responding to a call of shots fired in that area started chasing a car they saw speeding away from the scene at around 4 a.m.

Patrol cars trying to pull the driver over were hit by his car at least twice, police say, and an officer was nearly hit by his car in the course of the chase.

In the end the driver hit a curb and blew a tire near Carlton Street and Peach Street and police were able to arrest him.

Timothy L. Jones, 34, of Buffalo was charged with attempted assault of an officer, fleeing from an officer, reckless driving, criminal possession of stolen property and "a host of other charges," police say. He is currently on parole for drug possession charges.

At the same time, Buffalo Police homicide detectives are investigating the shooting that in the area of East Ferry and Fillmore that prompted the initial call.

Detectives say a 30-year-old man was taken to Erie County Medical Center in a private vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds.

He's listed in stable condition at this time.

Police continue to investigate whether the two incidents are related.
