Witness sees HarborCenter crane hit by lightning

BUFFALO, NY – A worker was in a crane over HarborCenter Thursday evening when it was struck by lightning.

Paul Grimmer posted this message to Facebook: "Eventful day at work today. I'm in the south tower crane at the harbor center and just got hit by lightning with this storm."

Buffalo Sabres spokesman Mike Gilbert confirmed that someone was inside the crane when it was struck by lightning, saying that, "the crane was grounded and acted the way it was supposed to."

The person even continued to work after the lightning strike, Gilbert said, adding that it's not an unusual occurrence.
