Joey Chestnut Sets World Record in Wing-Eating Competition

BUFFALO, NY- Number one ranked competitive eater Joey Chestnut won the U.S. Chicken Wing Eating Championship Sunday by eating a world record 192 wings in 12 minutes.

"I started out a little bit slow, the wings were hotter than the usual. It took me a while to get a rhythm," Chestnut said. "But I had a couple burps, I had my rhythm, the crowd was pushing me."

Chestnut's performance breaks the previous world record he set in 2012, when he ate 7.61 pounds of chicken wings in 12 minutes.

"It's a comfort food. I'll go to Hooters and I'll kill a bunch of [chicken wings]. It's just very easy for me to eat a bunch of them real quick," Chestnut said.

Chestnut currently holds 33 different competitive eating records, including records for apple pie, fish tacos, hot dogs and Twinkies.
