BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The community gathered at a "Dash for Diversity" event Sunday morning.
Western New York's National Federation for Just Communities hosted its 17th annual event in Delaware Park.
The event is a continuation of the organization's mission to promote equality and inclusion among people. It is the organization's second largest fundraiser.
Organizers said the money raised at Sunday's event goes directly back into their completely free youth programs.
"It's really amazing to see these kids that wouldn't have otherwise come together have a good time," Kara Oliver, Program Specialist for the National Federation for Just Communities, said of their youth programs.
Around 300 pre-registered for Sunday's dash and organizers said they hoped to bring in around 90 thousand dollars.
"We don't want to be part of a silent majority," Lana Benatovich, the President of NFJC, said. "We will work for our neighbor and we will build truly a region of good neighbors."
Registration for the dash started at 8:30 Sunday morning in Delaware Park.
2 On Your Side is a proud sponsor of the relay race and Daybreak's Melissa Holmes is an honorary chair.
