Three men rescued from Chautauqua Lake

ELLERY, N.Y. -- Crews pulled three men from Chautauqua Lake Sunday after their 14 foot Jon Boat overturned due to high winds and waves.

The men were fishing Sunday around 11 a.m in about 18 feet of water off the Interstate 86 overlook area in Ellery when a storm blew through, the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office says.

As the men tried to turn toward shore, waves overtook their small vessel, filling it with water. The men hung on to one side of the boat until Bemus Point Volunteer Fire Rescue crews pulled them from the water and took them to shore. The Sheriff Marine Patrol helped the operator with the submerged boat.

The men involved have been identified as Nicholas L. Gibbons, 32, of Benson Street in Jamestown, Nathan Gibbons, 31, of Mohican Place, Kent, Ohio and Thomas Parks of American Place in Jamestown.

The Sheriff's Office has not reported if the men involved suffered any injuries.
