Flooded Roads Causes Problems for Residents & Drivers

CLARENCE, N.Y.-The number of roads closed due to flooding in WNY has gone down but there are still some closures. Other roads are flooded, but passable.

Icing and floating debris have also caused problems.

There are signs and barricades warning drivers of impassable roads, but officials say a lot of drivers are not paying attention. One local towing company pulled out about a half dozen cars Tuesday morning.

If there are barricades, town officials are urging drivers not to go around them. The town of Clarence says drivers who ignore these warnings will be ticketed.

If there are flooded roads that are open, the highway superintendent said that drivers should go slow because any wake you create could push water closer toward homes.

The Highway Department is offering sandbags to residents who are in danger of losing hot water heaters and furnaces due to flooding. You can call 741-3210 for more information.

Here are the latest road closures due to flooding:

Smith Road eastbound and westbound is closed between Transit Road and New Road due to flooding.

Delaware Road is closed.

Kenfield Road is closed.

Wolcott Road is open from Transit to Westphalenger but closed from Westphalenger to Goodrich.
