Cheektowaga man arrested for impersonating soldier

A Cheektowaga man is facing charges for Criminal Impersonation,

Brandon Ashraf was arrested for impersonating a soldier killed in action after police conducted an internet investigation during 2011 and 2012.

The victim was a United State Army soldier from Maryland killed in Afghanistan back in 2009. Since then, his sister received information that a resident in the Town of Cheektowaga was using her brother's identity on social media. A police investigation showed that Ashraf had several internet accounts under the victim's identity. Ashraf used both personal information and photos.

Ashraf was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.
