4th of July at Canalside plans

4th of July at Canalside

BUFFALO, NY - Canalside and the Outer Harbor have revealed their plans for this year's 4th of July celebration, which will include food, music, activities and fireworks on the city's waterfront.

Organizers said they've made an effort to make the festivities as family-friendly as they can, and judging by the schedule, they've done just that.

The Outer Harbor will host a free admission carnival at Wilkeson Pointe on Monday, July 3 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Tuesday, July 4th from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The carnival will include family-friendly games and rides. Single ride tickets can be purchased for $1 each or family packs for $25. Activities include street performances, jugglers, face painters and balloon artists.

Live music will begin at 5 p.m. at Canalside with country band West of the Mark and the George Scott Band.

The fireworks can be watched at Canalside or the Outer Harbor and will be synced to music provided by Russell Salvatore, an annual sponsor of the event. The music will air live on 97 Rock.

Expect lots of downtown traffic on July 4, as the festivities have been well-attended over the years. Organizers recommend parking on Perry Street near the KeyBank Center, as well as other lots on the East side of Main Street.

"We are asking the public to understand that we will, like most places around the world, be very conscious of our security responsibilities. We're going to ask people not to bring bags in unless they're small and see-through. We're going to anticipate them being here early so that they can get through the security perimeter, as well as being down here early enough to park," says Jonathan Dandes, Canalside Management Group President.

The NFTA will have three buses parked along Washington Street and three metro trains running as well.

At the Harbor, there will be free parking on July 3 and free parking on July 4 until 5 p.m. Beginning at 5 p.m. there will be a $5 charge for parking.
