Cab company says record free rides to polls

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A local cab company says they have been getting a record number of calls for their free transporting service to polling places.

The company, Liberty Cab, is providing free rides for any Buffalo or Town of Tonawanda resident trying to get to the polls to vote on Election Day.

They say their phones have been "ringing off the hook" and they started getting calls right when the polls opened at 6 a.m.

The service is being provided through a partnership between Liberty Cab Company and the Clean Air Coalition and Community Power for Health and Justice.

"We can see by the calls that are coming in that hundreds of people have used this service to get to the polls and vote," said Rebecca Newberry, Director of the Clean Air Coalition.

Those interested in this service can call Liberty Cab at 716-877-7111 and use the code LibertyRide2Vote.

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. throughout the state.
